In 2000, Sega experimented with renting out Dreamcasts.

That was something really unusual in Japan companies don’t provide licenses for rentals.

Sega made an arrangement Tsutaya Department stores to rent out Dreamcast units. The idea was short lived so a very small number of these rental units exist today.

This version of the Dreamcast is really rare. It is believed that only 500 units were made.
